Mr. Osman Mohammed, Head of Eritrean People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) Internal Affairs; and Mr. Mohammed Ali, Deputy EPDP Internal Affairs department met with members of EPDP on January 23 & 24, 2010 in Shire, Northern Ethiopia to discuss the merger conference’s political resolutions and other items that the conference adopted.
Both Mr. Osman and Mr. Mohammed in their discussion noted that the merger conference of the four organizations, which took place at a time when the Eritrean people continue to face untold repression and suffering under the PFDJ regime, has given Eritreans ground for feeling confident and hopeful about the struggle against the regime. Thus, in order to fulfill the hopes and expectations of our people, the officials called upon both the forces of change and members of EPDP to work hard; and to focus on strengthening the newly formed unity as an important foundation for defeating the regime of PFDJ. They also discussed the Eritrean Democratic Alliance (EDA) as an important umbrella organization of the Eritrean opposition forces, and emphasized the need for greater effort to strengthen it. The leaders also pointed out that the new party will seek ways on how to make EDA more effective and appealing umbrella organization. Mr. Osman and Mr. Mohammed concluded the meeting after discussing various questions raised by the participating members.
